The Light has multiple modes. They start in the completely off setting (no light on or illuminated blue button).
The first tap of the switch illuminates the button, handy if you are going out and want to easily switch the light on when you return or if you prefer to have the blue switch illumination. The second tap turns the light on, you can then hold your finger on the switch to dim up and down. The third tap returns the light to the completely off mode.
